Who am I?

Hi, I’m Megan Braun (She/Her).

I’m a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in New York. I’m a native New Yorker with a love for the ocean and horror movies. Scuba diving and spending time with my family bring me joy. I became a therapist because I believe in our ability do hard things, like sit with feelings of discomfort or accept the things we cannot change (even though we may not want to). I believe in your potential to take control over your life, honor your peace and do the things that bring you joy.

Who I help.

I help folks who love someone struggling with drug/alcohol addiction. After working with the substance abuse population for the past several years, I know all too well the impact addiction has on interpersonal relationships. Although an important part of the recovery process, many friends/family members of addicts don’t seek their own treatment.  Ironically enough, this is often due to feelings of guilt and shame (feelings that often drive addicts to continue to use). In my experience, when family/friends learn to work through these feelings themselves, they often become a solid support for their loved one.

Our work together.

You’ll learn how to be supportive of your loved one while caring for yourself. I’ll help empower you to set boundaries with your loved one, while also providing you with insight on the powerful disease of addiction. You may feel hopeless, overwhelmed or powerless. You might find yourself questioning your role in your loved one’s addiction. Together, we’ll take your feelings of discouragement and turn them into hope.  You’ll learn to accept that your loved one’s sobriety is not your responsibility, and to let go of some of the feelings of guilt you may be holding onto as a result.
